St John’s Hall opens for Crafters

Farsley Farmers’ Market would like to thank our Customers for respecting social distancing, following the one-way system, queuing in less than perfect weather and all in good humour! Our contiued success depends upon your continued support. This is why we feel confident in saying “Welcome Back” to the Craft Sellers when Farsley Farmers Market opens St. John’s Hall this 24th October!

We will need to bring in further guidelines like the wearing of a face covering inside – this will apply to the Crafters and the Volunteer Marshals as well as you, the Customers to protect each other as well as we can. Where necessary, Customers will be asked to form a secondary queue outside the hall as numbers will be restricted inside.

All of our sellers, outside and in, have submitted personal covid risk assessments and will be fully versed in the safety aspects for when you visit us again. As the end of 2020 approaches we hope to continue with the indoor market through October, November and December (covid permitting) to help cover all your gift giving needs!

Farsley Farmers Market Re-Launch

Since 2020 began there have been a few changes to the Market Personel. Namely Paul Tudge, who was a founder member and the Vicar of St. John’s. At Christmas we bid a fond farewell to Paul and his family. The Team is still made up of members of the Farsley Community and they are Ray Sheller, Chris Birks, Jo Reilly & Bev Tuke.

St Johns - Autumn

The team have been busy putting Covid 19 safety measures in place and can finally announce the return of Farsley Farmers Market on Saturday 25th July – our 1st Market since cancelling the 28 March Anniversary Event! At the return event, safety measures will include a one-way system, social distancing and hand sanitisers and we hope you will comply so that all Farsley Community can #staysafe.

We have taken care to allow correct spacing of the stalls and to select a good mix of Traders for the reduced number of pitches, and all of them complying with Covid 19 guidelines. The event will be Marshalled by Volunteers recently appointed following the appeal on facebook. The Market itself will not look much different except that there will be No Access to the Church Hall toilets and no hot food or drinks on sale.

To allow extra time for the safe set-up of the Market Stalls, a new start time was agreed upon by the Team. The lockdown Market will trade from 10am to 1pm. Please join us on 25th July and, if you prefer to pick up orders ready and waiting for you, check out and contact the Traders soon to be listed in the event post on the Market facebook page. Traders will provide card payments options and/or a safe cash system on the day.

Heading t’ward Xmas in Farsley

With just two monthly markets to go plus our Seasonal Market held by Sunny Bank Mills on Farsley Christmas Lights Night, we are getting up speed and heading toward Christmas in Farsley!  view Farsley Christmas Market post here

Have you spotted our facebook event feature “Stall of the month” ?    We have already mentioned S & S James who were involved in the launch of the Farmers’ Market back in March 2014.  Stu & Sue have now expanded to two stalls – Artisan World Kitchen and Farsley Smokehouse.  Candied Peel Cake Co. keep mixing it up and improving their cake range season by season. They are taking your Xmas orders now!

As our newest Trader, Yorkshire Chocolatier gets a mention in our event post for Sat 27th Oct. – Click here and scroll through the ‘discussion’

Please support the Traders by making a point to visit your  monthly market, not only for the produce and crafts but to enjoy the attractions and feel the community spirit.  Inside, the Kitchen Special – back by popular demand – is handmade pancake and maple syrup with or without bacon! For the diehards there is always our sausage or bacon butties and toasted fruit loaf.

Visit us on Lights Night too – Wednesday 28th November, to enjoy a great range of hot and take home foods, a special selection of hand crafted gifts plus Santa’s Grotto along with facepaints and glitter tattoos.

Look out for the official posters around Farsley detailing the time and route of Santa’s parade with a Pipe Band, The Village Singers, Fireworks and participation from Comunity Groups as well. A night to really put you in the Christmas Spirit!

Market goes from strength to strength

Farsley Farmers Market is now in its 5th year!   If you have not found us yet we are located off the main shopping street in St. John’s Hall and grounds, New Street, Farsley, LS28 5DJ.

As you enter the market you discover a range of quality savoury and sweet produce stalls, with meat, vegetarian, free from and vegan options, plus a Family Attraction which could be an animal rescue, a charity, vocalists or performers.  After your shop step inside where you can take the weight off and sit with a coffee or tea and a hot sandwich – the local butcher, Harvey Davis & Sons, have supplied the kitchen with bacon and sausage from the start.

Our delightful group of Hand Crafters & Gift Sellers stem from Farsley and surrounding areas and the Book Sale is held by Friends of St John’s Church.  Thanks to West Leeds Mumblers we also have a regular Toy Exchange bucket on hand and most months you can enjoy Facepainting (as every month would be too indulgent!).

Farsley Farmers Market is looking forward to 23rd June 2018, Festival Day in Farsley, when our Market will have a Dance Troupe to entertain our Customers and, like Pied Pipers, they will lead Families to Hainsworth Park for the Festival activities which will include crafts, performances, play areas and food, all taking place from midday to 5:00 p.m.  Fetch your own seating/blankets and sun cream (and maybe a picnic from a selection at the market).

Our events are Family friendly and your dogs are welcome too.  We have a disabled toilet and ramp access plus St John’s award winning Adult Changing Place, entered by radar key.  On Market days there are more road users and fewer parking spaces so the early birds find the best spots!  Don’t worry though – later shoppers are invited to use the lower end of Go Outdoors car-park and take the 2 minute walk back along New Street.   Pudsey New Station is not far away from us and buses drop you at the gate.

A Short History of Farsley Farmers’ Market

Farsley Farmers’ Market is just a baby and will be celebrating its 4th Anniversary Sat 24th March 2018!

It is not run by the Council but was set up by the Farsley Business Initiative – a group of Farsley Businesses and Retailers, Individuals and  Rev. Paul Tudge of St John’s, Farsley. The Rev. offered his Church Hall and car park for its venue as it is nicely positioned at the top of Farsley Town Street.  A time and date was set – the fourth Saturday of each month from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

Ffm - Outside FFM_0978

Their plan was to improve local weekend sales and many Shops & Businesses offered a 10% discount to Farmers’ Market Customers on the launch day. Some Businesses, such as Sutcliffe’s Greengrocers, stood at the first few events. The local Butcher, Harvey Davis, continues to supply bacon and sausages for St. John’s Kitchen.

The Market operates all year round each 4th Saturday of the month but is also held on Farsley Festival weekend and for Farsley Christmas lights, when we trade from Sunny Bank Mills car park.

Being a small affair we strive to not duplicate stalls so we are always on the lookout for something different to bring to our Customers.  Stu James, Proprietor of S&S James and Market Coordinator, is the Man to speak to regarding a Market stall.  Chris Burks ensures each event is Family friendly by finding attractions like local performers, or animal rescues.  Jo Reilly has managed the media side since the new Promotion Team was formed in Jan 2016 and coordinates the booking of indoor Craft tables.  Rev. Paul Tudge produces Market fliers & banners, runs the Kitchen and supervises the whole event.  In spring 2016 we acquired our own market stalls so the Rev. (and some close friends!) has to rise early, set these up and drive up the Leeds Ring Road securing Market posts along the way.

We are non-profit making but seek to ensure Traders and Customers alike have a fun and fruitful experience and choose Farsley first for shopping.
